There’s a new Korean on Bowery Street. No, not a dry cleaners. No, not a fruit stand. No, not a BBQ spot. There’s an artist on the Bowery Wall, named David Choe. Choe is an American figure painter, muralist, graffiti artist and graphic novelist of Korean descent. But in case you still don’t know who he is from his art, you may know the story of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg commissioning David to paint murals for their office. He chose to receive company stock in lieu of cash payment for the murals. When Facebook’s 2012 IPO dropped, those shares were valued at approximately $200 million.
He recently joined the list of the street art elite, Keith Haring, Futura and Swoon, to name a few, and finished a Houston Bowery mural. It is considered an honor to be given that wall to create art, the Houston Bowery Mural wall, one of the highest regarded mural walls in the United States.
